18th Century Jacket

For my embellishment module at uni, I had to research 18th Century men's coats/jackets and then create the front panel.  I had to test out various embellishment techniques including Batik, hand embroidery, machine embroidery, silk painting, stenciling, applique, devore and ageing and distressing.

After working drawings were complete, I began with basic stenciling and couching.

Leaves were sewn using a satin stitch, large flowers were made using a gold leather applique and very small flowers were depicted as lilac sequins.

A white satin was then pinned to the back of the jacket panel.........

..........then stitched into place.

A narrow gold coloured rope was stitched along the edges.

The same embroidery design was applied to the jacket pocket.

White satin was added as a lining.

The final jacket piece.
